Praga Cup UK 2022 Race Review Round 1

I kicked off my 2022 season with being invited to race the Praga R1 at Silverstone, the first ever round of Praga’s new one make series. I raced alongside Arden GB3 driver, Alex Conner with Idolatries Motorsport and Arden Motorsport.
The Friday of the race weekend was the first ever time that I’d driven the Praga, or any prototype or single seater for that matter. It was so fun to get out there and feel the aerodynamics of the car. The Friday test day was wet and I completed 12 laps of practice. We showed really good pace in practice so Praga gave us a 30 second success penalty in race 1.
On the Saturday, the day started with qualifying, which was damp. We qualified 2nd on the grid and I was starting race 1 later that day. Despite never driving the car in the dry until race 1 and our 30 second success penalty, I managed to take the lead around the outside of turn 1 and we kept that lead with a great stint from Alex to win the race!
Following our win in race 1, they increased our success penalty to 45 seconds for race 2. We started at the back of the grid because someone had hit Alex in qualifying. We worked our way up to 3rd overall before our gearbox failed, likely due to the hit we received in qualifying. This unfortunately ended our race early.
It was still a fantastic weekend and we were really happy to win the first ever Praga Cup race. I’d like to thank Praga and Arden Motorsport for making the weekend possible and giving me and Alex the opportunity to be apart of it.
