International GT Open at Spa Francorchamps - Guest Round Race Review

1st

6th

I travelled to Belgium for my GT3 debut in the GT Open Championship at Spa Francorchamps. Back in action with TF Sport and driving alongside Blancpain Champion, Ahmad Al Harthy, I knew it was going to be a great weekend.

The weekend kicked off with practice on Friday where due to red flags I only managed to get in 4 laps in total, not ideal for my GT3 debut race weekend at a track like Spa. I kept my head down and worked very hard Friday night and Saturday morning to make sure I was in the best place possible going into qualifying Saturday morning.

In qualifying, after my limited practice, I headed out the pits and immediately felt extremely confident in myself and the TF Sport prepared Vantage GT3 car. My final lap of the session put me P2 on the grid for the race later that day. I was extremely happy to get a front row start on my debut. The hard work paid off.

Race 1 was a great race. I had a tough start after the pole sitter jumped the start and others followed however, I kept my head down and kept pushing and put in a very strong stint. After a great stint from Ahmad we finished P3 overall and taking the Pro/Am class victory. It was a great feeling to win my first GT3 race!

Qualifying 2 was Ahmads turn to set a lap and he did a great job against some top drivers qualifying P9. Ahmad had tough stint behind a McLaren that had more straight-line speed making it very difficult to overtake. In the pit stop we had to serve an extra 10 second success penalty for finishing p3 overall in race 1. After I went out on track, I cleared one car straight out of the pits and then found myself in a big space on track so I just put in the best laps I could showing some very good pace. We finished P6 in Pro/Am.

All in all, it was a fantastic weekend for us and for me personally. Achieving my first front row qualifying result and my first race win all on my debut weekend. Ahmad did a great job and was very quick. I am looking forward to partnering with him for the Asian Le Mans series in 2021 where we will race alongside 2 time Le Mans winner, Jonny Adam. The Oman racing with TF Sport prepared Aston Martin Vantage GT3 car was faultless all weekend and was a pleasure to drive.
