In 2022, I raced in the GT4 European Series with Racing Spirit Of Leman and team mate, Akhil Rabindra. Akhil and I both have experience in the Aston Martin GT4 and that paired with Racing Spirit Of Leman’s experience in WEC, we had high hopes heading into the season.
We kicked off round 1 with a podium in both races. This was an important step creating confidence in the team going forward. I also broke the Imola GT4 lap record in race 2.
It was a season of many highs and lows however with great consistency Akhil and the team did a fantastic job to be heading into the final round running 4th place in the championship and still fighting for 2nd place. Unfortunately the car had a sensor failure leading to our first DNF of the season in race 1. In race 2, Akhil got hit off of the track at turn 1 dropping the car down to last place. We recovered well despite our progress being compromised by almost constant safety cars. I managed to recover some of the loss by overtaking 18 cars in the final stint to finish 11th in Silver.
Due to this bad luck at the final round, we dropped from 4th to 8th in the championship. We all accepted that this is just something that can happen in racing and is out of our control so our heads were still held high.
I am proud of the job we did as a team. We showed great pace, race craft and discipline when fighting at the top end of the field and it was an absolute pleasure to race alongside Akhil and with Racing Spirit of Leman. Finally I’d like to thank Akhil and Aston Martin Racing for the opportunity to be apart of this programme. We had a great fun, results and memories. I look forward to seeing what the future holds with Akhil and the team.
